This is my inaugural post.
....... Based on the fact that I really wanted Okami to beat his ass the other night. Not so much because I'm in love with Okami, but because I don't care much for Silva and it would have been great to see him lose to a modest guy like Yushin. At least now Sonnen or Hendo gets another shot to beat him up and take the belt from him.
I just don't get how you can enter the octagon and bow, and within a few minutes be shuckin' and jiving with your hands down to try and mock your opponent like that. I know Chael Sonnen is not being serious with his antics, but he is right when he says Anderson is a fraud.
But the truth is the guy is a great striker and in a division as weak as UFC's middleweight division, I guess he can act like that and get away with it most of the time. After the Okami fight I had to watch a replay of Silva vs Sonnen and I have to say they guy can take a beating. Sonnen really gave him a brutal beating, hit him with solid shots on the ground, and even dropped him a few times in standup exchanges, and you know what.... After the fight Silva looked pretty in tact. So the guy is great but I truly believe both Sonnen and Hendo are capable of beating him soundly.
I think the best use for Anderson Silva would have been to have had him fight James Toney at the time they paired him with Randy Couture. I think his Muy Thai would have decimated Toney's boxing and really made a statement for the caliber of fighter/athlete the UFC employs. I'm almost certain he could have beat the shit out of Toney in a purely standup fight, and with the mma grappling gloves being too small to effectively block punches the way boxing gloves do, maybe even outbox Toney as well. In any event that time has passed and Anderson is still the champ. That is until the Hendo or Sonnen get back in the cage with him.
